Do I own my website?
It depends on your contract and platform. If your designer registers the domain in their name, or the site lives on a builder you can't export from, you may not fully own it.
With SprintSite, you do: the code, the domain and the content are yours and handed over at launch.
The three things to own
- The domain: it should be registered in your name, with you holding the registrar login.
- The content: your copy, photos and logo.
- The code or site files: so you can move hosts or hire someone else later.
Website builders (Wix, Squarespace)
You own your content and can connect your own domain, but the site itself runs on the builder's platform. Moving away later usually means rebuilding. Check each builder's current terms and export options. See our done-for-you vs DIY builder comparison.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Whose name is the domain registered in?
- Will I get the code and all admin logins at launch?
- What happens if I stop paying a monthly fee?
- Can I take the site to another designer?

Frequently asked questions
Does SprintSite keep any rights to my site?
No. You keep the code, domain and content.
Can I edit my site myself after launch?
Yes. The code is yours, and SprintSite can show you how to make common changes.
What if my current designer owns my domain?
Ask them to transfer it to an account in your name. The registrar can explain its transfer process.
